I’ve stared into the eyes of darkness
Leaned in and kissed it
And then told it no
When it said to come with me

It hasn’t given up
I feel the way it still watches
To see if my humanity
Becomes enough of a burden
To weaken my will
Enough to pull me permanently
Into the abyss

I absorb the pain
When I’m trapped in the abyss
Allowing it to bathe my senses
It is where I forged my shield
That you recognize as rough edges
Which I wear without apologies

I’ve lined my bones
With what was sent to destroy me
The Promise of a dark ending
Used as the fuel to my genesis
