We stifle love
Because we’re afraid of its sharp edges
But will turn a blind eye to hate
And allow it to exist freely in the open
We build walls to shield our hearts
And hide our vulnerability from view
Turning away connections
Blocking out their warmth
Seeking validation in toxic things
Surrendering to fear
And leaving life to chance
